About L.A. OYC

Los Angeles County is home to 10,000 current and former foster youth, ages 16-24. Transition-age foster youth are resilient, resourceful, and determined.

The L.A. Opportunity Youth Collaborative (OYC) is building a community of organizations working in concert to ensure that every youth is served in a holistic way with a coherent array of complementary services. The OYC builds bridges between more than 50 public agencies, service organizations, educational institutions, and employers to better connect youth with education, jobs, and opportunity.

Our Vision:

A united network of employers, providers, educational institutions and community partners that creates a powerful launch pad for young people to overcome the systemic barriers to their success.

Connecting Community

Transition-age foster youth are resilient, resourceful, and determined. Yet, too often, efforts to support their ambition fail due to gaps and lack of coordination among the organizations that serve their needs.

The OYC is building a community of public and private providers, enabling them to work in concert to ensure that every youth is served in a holistic way with a coherent array of complementary services. We build bridges across siloed systems to empower youth to achieve their goals. OYC regularly convenes partners to share resources, best practices, and data to better connect youth with education, opportunity, and jobs.
Each week we send out weekly updates with important information and resources from OYC Partners. View past emails and sign up for future weekly updates.

Building Careers

The OYC creates a pipeline between job-ready youth and major employers. The OYC Careers Program, the result of community partners and public agencies working in concert, builds opportunity in high-growth sectors like the grocery, entertainment, and retail industries.

From work readiness to on-the-job coaching and mentoring, our goal is to streamline the path to career development for our young people.

Promoting Education

The OYC champions educational achievement for transition-age foster youth and coordinates a complex network of programs to provide continuous support. When children move between homes, schools and districts, as youth in foster care do, many fall far behind and fail to finish high school. The OYC catalyzes partners around initiatives designed to change that outcome.

OYC partners include The Coalition for Educational Equity for Foster Youth (CEEFY), Court Scholars, Los Angeles Community College District, Guardian Scholars, and Cooperative Agencies Foster Youth Educational Success (CAFYES).
