After High School

Los Angeles Mission provides Foster Youth student the opportunity for advocacy and support through the Cooperating Agencies Foster Youth Educational Support Program (CAFYES) and the Guardian Scholars program. Collaboratively, both programs mission is to empower foster youth through higher education. We are committed to provide the necessary tools and support to Foster Youth students to help them overcome obstacles and remove educational barrios in order to successfully obtain a certificate, transfer or Associate’s Degree. 
 
 

CAFYES students also receive Academic Advisement Assistance with Course Enrollment Assistance with Financial Aid Career Counseling Employment Assistance including Internships Housing Referrals Meal Assistance Mentoring Networking Events Priority Registration Transportation Assistance Tutoring Field Trips

CalWORKs/GAIN (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids/Greater Avenues to Independence) is a government (both state and federal) funded program that offers temporary financial assistance, vocational and job skills training, as well as other support services. Our office serves as a liaison between the college and the Los Angeles Department of Public Services.

Year Up is a one-year, full-time training and internship program located on the West Los Angeles College campus. Our mission is to close the opportunity divide by providing young adults ages 18 – 24 with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.

We are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Division of Adult and Career Education. We have two main campuses, Venice Skills Center and Emerson Campus as well as additional campuses across West Los Angeles. We offer low-cost classes in the following areas: CTE (Career Technical Eduction) courses designed for those who want to upgrade their job skills or train for a new career.

The Pierce College Guardian Scholars Program is designed as a one-stop center to support current and former foster youths achieve their educational goals to either complete a Certificate, Associates Degree, or Transfer to a university.

EOP&S is a state-funded support program designed to assist qualified low-income and educationally disadvantaged students in completing their educational goals with the assistance of financial and student support services. It's an invitational program open only to those who qualify and commit to participate in the program.

Qualified students receive assistance balancing their academic needs with financial assistance (for meals, textbooks, school supplies, graduation, and more) and additional support services.
