Programs And Services:
AOD Prevention: Changing the local environment and conditions that facilitate AOD use, as well as the knowledge and behaviors of youth and adults that contribute to community norms about AOD use in Long Beach. Long Beach Community Action Team: Youth group based in Long Beach Polytechnic High School. Goal and focus is to develop community youth leaders to mobilize and advocate on alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention (ATOD) policies and campaigns in the City of Long Beach.
The Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) provides special services to youth between the ages of 15 and 25 to assist them in achieving their educational and vocational goals. While working with peer advisors, youth clients interact with professional individuals who have similar paths, perspectives, and educational goals by providing referrals to supportive services, workshops, career coaching, employment preparation, and other training and community outreach efforts.
Eligible individuals receive in-depth assessment and job preparation workshops, which prepare them for classroom or the employers site, at public or private vocational schools, colleges or universities found at www.i-train.org. Services for eligible youth, 14 - 24 years of age, include pre-employment training, work experience and internships, career preparation, occupational skills training, academic enrichment and job placement assistance.
ITEP connects high school students to careers. Through partnerships with industry and educators, International Trade Education Programs (ITEP) prepares high school students for careers in high-wage and high-growth job sectors through career exploration activities, industry mentoring, paid summer internships, and college scholarships.
