Every year, BBBSLA reaches approximately 1,500 youth through five unique mentoring programs that reach children and youth in their communities, schools, and in the workplace. By building a strong, one-to-one and professionally-supported mentoring relationship to serve as a foundation for transformative impact and life skills learning, BBBSLA’s innovative approaches to expanding mentoring opportunities help to close both the achievement and opportunity gaps that exist for too many children and youth.
The Boyle Heights FamilySource Center is a "one-stop-shop" for families that offers free children/ youth and adult education and training programs. Children and Youth services include: One on One Academic Support Services with LAUSD PSA counselor; Weekly Afterschool Tutoring Services; Youth Leadership Program; Mentoring; College Awareness & College Trips; Recreational Programs; Case Management; and Mental Health Services.
YouthBuild Charter School of California (YCSC) holds a unique place in the landscape of California’s public charter schools. As a competency-based dropout recovery school, it seeks to provide a high school education that leads to a diploma for a distinct group of students. Students enroll at YouthBuild programs over-aged, under-credited, or both, in order to receive vocational training, counseling, leadership development and an education.
The BHTYC provides comprehensive case management services that focus on developing youth assets and strengths besides addressing youth barriers. Five Keys is a nationally recognized education management (non-profit) corporation that operates accredited charter schools and programs for TAY youth and adults at 70 locations across California. Five Keys operates with the goal of restoring communities through education and other programs that respond to the students’ and community needs---which in turn creates safer communities.
The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley is a member agency of the Boys & Girl of America. The Club offers daily access to a broad range of programs in six core programs areas Education & Careers; Character & Leadership; Health & Life Skills; the Arts; Sports, Fitness, and Recreation; and Family Preservation Education
Located in the heart of metropolitan Los Angeles, the La Brea Tar Pits are one of the world’s most famous fossil localities. The newly named La Brea Tar Pits Museum (located in the George C. Page Museum building) displays Ice Age fossils — including saber-toothed cats, dire wolves and mammoths — from 10,000 to 40,000-year-old asphalt deposits. But visitors can also watch the processes of paleontology unfold. Every day inside the glass-enclosed Fossil Lab, scientists and volunteers prepare fossils including “Zed,” a recently discovered male Columbian mammoth.
The Brotherhood Crusade Youth Source Center is a partnership with the City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department. The program increases educational and career-based mentoring opportunities by aligning youth with committed mentors, re-engaging youth in school, developing their vocational life and social skills, improving their academic skills, engaging youth in work experience volunteerism and internships, and eventually helping youth secure employment.
John Muir Charter School is a statewide WASC accredited high school diploma program that serves youth 16-24 that have been pushed out of the traditional education system. We offer a rigorous academic program with full-time accredited teachers and academic tutors in tandem with career and college readiness programs at our school sites.
