CalWORKs/GAIN (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids/Greater Avenues to Independence) is a government (both state and federal) funded program that offers temporary financial assistance, vocational and job skills training, as well as other support services. Our office serves as a liaison between the college and the Los Angeles Department of Public Services.
EOP&S is a state-funded support program designed to assist qualified low-income and educationally disadvantaged students in completing their educational goals with the assistance of financial and student support services. It's an invitational program open only to those who qualify and commit to participate in the program.
Qualified students receive assistance balancing their academic needs with financial assistance (for meals, textbooks, school supplies, graduation, and more) and additional support services.
The Guardian Scholars Program is designed to provide support for current and former foster youth attending Valley College. The program joins together the efforts of all campus student support services to assist students in reaching their academic goals.

The CalWORKs Program at LAVC is an educational, training, and job development program established for students who are currently receiving TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families) benefits such as cash aid and other assistance from the Department of Public Social Services. Our goal is to provide an educational environment where the student may develop the needed vocational skills leading to meaningful employment.
