Strengthening Youth and Peer Mentoring: Best Practices for Planning, Marketing, and Engagement

Mentoring is a powerful strategy that supports growth, connection, and opportunity for youth and adults alike. It can provide critical guidance for young people who lack positive adult relationships, strengthen peer-to-peer connections, and open doors to experiences once thought out of reach.

An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing: Something in Your Back Pocket

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, strengths-focused approach that helps clients move past ambivalence and build motivation for positive life changes. In this introductory training, participants will learn the foundations of MI—including its spirit, core tasks, and practical skills—while practicing communication techniques that support clients in identifying barriers, clarifying goals, and envisioning self-sufficiency. The session includes interactive, multi-modal learning and small-group skill building.

February 3rd • 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Fentanyl Crisis: Enhancing Awareness and Saving Lives

During this hour-long training, participants will gain a better understanding of the growing fentanyl crisis. Presenters will share the facts about fentanyl, its risks, and how it impacts our community, especially youth. Participants will also receive a virtual training on how to safely administer naloxone (Narcan), a life-saving medication. Together, we can raise awareness, reduce risk, and protect our loved ones.

The Alliance helps children in or at risk of foster care find stability by connecting them to healthcare, education, housing, and other vital support.

The Individualized Transition Skills Program (ITSP) offers one-on-one support right in your home for up to two years — plus a chance to earn $300!

The County of Los Angeles Youth@Work program gives young people access to paid work experiences, job readiness training, and other great opportunities to build skills and explore careers.

CASA of Los Angeles supports young people ages 0–21 in LA County who have an open dependency or juvenile justice case.

The Family Urgent Response System (FURS) offers a free, 24/7 hotline and mobile teams that bring immediate, caring support to current and former foster youth and their caregivers.
